Une \u00e9volution essentielle pour que la massoth\u00e9rapie obtienne enfin la reconnaissance qu\u2019elle m\u00e9rite.<\/p>\n<p><BR><\/p>\n<p>Depuis longtemps, les massoth\u00e9rapeutes souhaitent un encadrement plus rigoureux et une meilleure reconnaissance de leur profession. En collaboration avec plusieurs associations qu\u00e9b\u00e9coises, nous avons analys\u00e9 diff\u00e9rents mod\u00e8les afin d\u2019identifier une solution \u00e9quilibr\u00e9e qui respecte \u00e0 la fois la volont\u00e9 de professionnalisation, la richesse, la diversit\u00e9 et l\u2019autonomie propres \u00e0 la pratique de la massoth\u00e9rapie au Qu\u00e9bec. Cette solution vise aussi \u00e0 r\u00e9pondre aux besoins des massoth\u00e9rapeutes, de leur client\u00e8le et des assureurs, afin de renforcer la cr\u00e9dibilit\u00e9 de la profession aupr\u00e8s de tous les acteurs concern\u00e9s.<br \/>\n<BR><\/p>\n<h2>Proposition d\u2019une solution d\u2019encadrement<\/h2>\n<p>Le R\u00e9seau des massoth\u00e9rapeutes professionnels du Qu\u00e9bec (RMPQ), le Groupe RITMA, la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des massoth\u00e9rapeutes agr\u00e9\u00e9s (FQM), l\u2019Association nationale des massoth\u00e9rapeutes (ANM), l\u2019Association qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des th\u00e9rapeutes naturels (AQTN), l\u2019Association des massoth\u00e9rapeutes du Qu\u00e9bec (AMQ-RMQ) et l\u2019Alliance des massoth\u00e9rapeutes du Qu\u00e9bec (ALMQ) ont collabor\u00e9 \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9laboration d\u2019une proposition d\u2019encadrement. Cette proposition s\u2019inspire de la Loi 193, adopt\u00e9e par le gouvernement de la Nouvelle-\u00c9cosse en 2019, intitul\u00e9e :<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/aqtn.ca\/questions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/massage-therapist-regulatory-title-protection-act.pdf\">\u00ab Massage Therapist Titles Protection Act \u00bb &#8211; (PDF &#8211; 4 pages)<\/a><\/P><\/p>\n<p>Cette proposition vise le d\u00e9p\u00f4t d\u2019un projet de loi particulier, en dehors du syst\u00e8me professionnel actuel, afin d\u2019officialiser la protection du titre de massoth\u00e9rapeute au Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<p>Ensemble, nous repr\u00e9sentons environ 95 % des massoth\u00e9rapeutes qualifi\u00e9s du Qu\u00e9bec et nous proposons des r\u00e8gles claires et uniformes pour garantir un haut niveau de pratique et de protection du public.<\/p>\n<p>Le projet pr\u00e9voit \u00e9galement la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une liste d\u2019associations autoris\u00e9es \u00e0 administrer les exigences li\u00e9es \u00e0 l\u2019usage du titre de massoth\u00e9rapeute, lesquelles devront d\u00e9montrer leur capacit\u00e9 \u00e0 appliquer et \u00e0 faire respecter les exigences de pratique \u00e9tablies. Le projet se veut ouvert et inclusif : toute association r\u00e9pondant aux crit\u00e8res \u00e9tablis pourra s\u2019y joindre.<\/p>\n<h2>Des crit\u00e8res uniformes et reconnus<\/h2>\n<p>Le projet ne vise pas la cr\u00e9ation d\u2019une nouvelle entit\u00e9 de r\u00e9gulation, mais plut\u00f4t la d\u00e9finition de crit\u00e8res uniformes permettant l\u2019usage du titre de massoth\u00e9rapeute. Nous proposons notamment :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>un nombre minimal d\u2019heures de formation rehauss\u00e9,<\/li>\n<li>des comp\u00e9tences standardis\u00e9es,<\/li>\n<li>une assurance responsabilit\u00e9 professionnelle obligatoire,<\/li>\n<li>des heures de formation continue obligatoires,<\/li>\n<li>une v\u00e9rification des ant\u00e9c\u00e9dents judiciaires,<\/li>\n<li>l\u2019obligation de faire partie d\u2019une association reconnue.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Reconnaissance des massoth\u00e9rapeutes en exercice<\/h2>\n<p>L\u2019objectif n\u2019est pas d\u2019exclure les massoth\u00e9rapeutes d\u00e9j\u00e0 en pratique, mais de faire \u00e9voluer la profession de fa\u00e7on structur\u00e9e et coh\u00e9rente. Le projet recommande une clause de droits acquis, afin de pr\u00e9server le droit de pratique des massoth\u00e9rapeutes en exercice et d\u2019assurer une transition harmonieuse vers les nouvelles exigences de formation et de pratique.<\/p>\n<h2>Prochaines \u00e9tapes<\/h2>\n<p>Il est important de comprendre qu\u2019aucun changement n\u2019est effectif pour le moment et qu\u2019aucune exigence ne sera modifi\u00e9e \u00e0 court terme. Les associations \u00e0 l\u2019origine du projet souhaitent engager un dialogue constructif avec leurs membres, les \u00e9coles de formation, les autres associations ainsi qu\u2019avec l\u2019ensemble des parties prenantes. L\u2019objectif est de prendre en compte les diff\u00e9rents points de vue afin de pr\u00e9parer un \u00e9ventuel d\u00e9p\u00f4t d\u2019un projet de loi le plus rassembleur et repr\u00e9sentatif possible.<\/p>\n<p>Elles s\u2019engagent \u00e0 tenir les acteurs du milieu inform\u00e9s de l\u2019\u00e9volution de cette d\u00e9marche, fond\u00e9e sur le consensus, la collaboration et la valorisation de la profession de massoth\u00e9rapeute.<\/p>\n<h1>ENGLISH<\/h1>\n<p>For the first time in Quebec, the seven leading massage therapy associations are joining forces in an inclusive initiative aimed at professionalizing the practice of massage therapy and strengthening its regulatory framework. This is a crucial step toward ensuring that massage therapy finally receives the recognition it deserves.<\/p>\n<p>For a long time, massage therapists have been calling for stricter regulation and greater recognition of their profession. In collaboration with several Quebec associations, we have analyzed various models to identify a balanced solution that respects both the desire for professionalization and the richness, diversity, and autonomy inherent in the practice of massage therapy in Quebec. This solution also aims to meet the needs of massage therapists, their clients, and insurers, in order to strengthen the profession\u2019s credibility among all stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p><BR><BR><\/p>\n<p><b>Proposal for a Regulatory Framework<\/b><BR><BR><\/p>\n<p>The R\u00e9seau des massoth\u00e9rapeutes professionnels du Qu\u00e9bec (RMPQ), the RITMA Group, the Association nationale des massoth\u00e9rapeutes (ANM), the Association qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des th\u00e9rapeutes naturels (AQTN), the Association des massoth\u00e9rapeutes du Qu\u00e9bec (AMQ-RMQ), the F\u00e9d\u00e9ration qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise des massoth\u00e9rapeutes agr\u00e9\u00e9s (FQM) and the Alliance des massoth\u00e9rapeutes du Qu\u00e9bec (ALMQ) have collaborated on the development of a regulatory framework proposal. This proposal is inspired by Bill 193, passed by the Government of Nova Scotia, titled <a href=\"https:\/\/aqtn.ca\/questions\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/massage-therapist-regulatory-title-protection-act.pdf\">\u201cMassage Therapist Titles Protection Act\u201d, adopted in Nova Scotia in 2019 &#8211; (PDF 4 pages).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This proposal aims to introduce a specific bill, outside the current professional system, to formalize the protection of the title of massage therapist in Quebec.<\/p>\n<p>Together, we represent\u00a0approximately 95% of massage therapists who are members of professional associations in Quebec and we are proposing clear and uniform rules to ensure a high standard of practice and public protection.<\/p>\n<p>The initiative also provides for the creation of a list of associations authorized to oversee and enforce the established requirements related to the use of the massage therapist title. The initiative is designed to be open and inclusive: any association meeting the established criteria may join.<\/p>\n<p><BR><BR><\/p>\n<p><b>Uniform and Recognized Criteria<\/b><\/p>\n<p><BR><BR><\/p>\n<p>The project does not aim to create a new regulatory body, but rather to establish uniform criteria for the use of the massage therapist title. Specifically, we propose:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>an increased minimum number of training hours,<\/li>\n<li>standardized competencies,<\/li>\n<li>mandatory professional liability insurance,<\/li>\n<li>mandatory continuing education hours,<\/li>\n<li>a criminal background check,<\/li>\n<li>and the requirement to be a member of a recognized association.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><BR><BR><\/p>\n<p><b>Recognition of Practicing Massage Therapists<\/b><\/p>\n<p><BR><BR><\/p>\n<p>The goal is not to exclude massage therapists who are already practicing, but to develop the profession in a structured and consistent manner. The associations behind the initiative wish to engage in a constructive dialogue with their members, training schools, other associations, and all stakeholders.
