It is recommended to get 1.5 to 2 cups of fruit per day.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ars.usda.gov\/news-events\/news\/research-news\/2021\/numerous-health-benefits-found-in-summer-favorite-watermelon\/\"> &#8211; Read the full story on USDA website<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In this current day, watermelons are full with sweet juice, however, they never used to be sweet and juicy. In fact, the watermelons wild ancestor was bitter with hard green flesh.<\/p>\n<p>The fruit originates from in Africa, however, the exact location is unknown.<br \/>\nAs the fruit contains mostly water (about 90%), the water was extracted during dry seasons when water was scarce.<\/p>\n<p>The fruit is full of important nutrients such as vitamins A, B6 and C and rich in lycopene, antioxidants and amino acids. Each allowing the body to function optimally as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Muscle recovery<\/strong><br \/>\nConsumption of watermelon prior to an intense workout reduces delayed onset muscle soreness secondary to the amino acid content which supports the improvement of circulation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Anti-inflammatory properties<\/strong><br \/>\nWatermelon contains both Lycopene and choline which inhibit various of inflammatory processes. Reducing inflammation is good for chronic conditions such as arthritis and also in acute injuries. Inflammation could also arise from various factors such as stress, smoking and pollution which in turn causes cell damage. This is called &#8220;systemic inflammation&#8221;. In this situation, any food with anti-inflammatory properties can help with overall immunity and general health.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. Antioxidant<\/strong><br \/>\nAntioxidants help prevent damage to the cells by eradicating free radicals. Watermelon contains high amounts of lycopene which is a powerful antioxidant and has been linked with heart health, bone health and prostate cancer prevention. Lycopene gives the watermelon its red color, therefore to maximize lycopene intake, let the watermelon fully ripen. The redder your watermelon gets, the higher the concentration of lycopene becomes.<br \/>\nBeta-carotene and phenolic are other antioxidants that are found in watermelons; these also increase as the fruit ripens content also increase as the watermelon ripens.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4. Hydration<\/strong><br \/>\nDue the high water content watermelons are a great source of hydration. Additionally, the juice is full of good electrolytes, such as magnesium and potassium which are needed to replace fluid losses.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5. Digestion<\/strong><br \/>\nThe watermelon contains fiber, which encourages a healthy digestive tract and helps keep you regular.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6. Skin and hair<\/strong><br \/>\nVitamin A supports healthy skin and hair by encouraging the healthy growth of new collagen and elastin cells. Watermelon contains a good amount of this vitamin therefor an inclusion of this fruit will definitely help with good skin and hair.<\/p>\n<p>Whether big or small, the watermelon should feel heavy for its size.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Always look for the yellow spot:<\/strong> watermelons produce a splotch where they rest on the ground. When this splotch is creamy yellow, it&#8217;s ripe.<br \/>\nAlso, a ripe melon will have a deep hollow sound. A melon that is under-ripe or over-ripe will sound dull.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to keep ripe melons away from other fruit as ethylene gas from the other fruits can speed up the fruit&#8217;s ripening and therefore over-ripen the melon. C&#8217;est l&#8217;une des rares sources du lycop\u00e8ne.\u00a0 Antioxydant qui peut prot\u00e9ger contre certains cancers et maladies cardiaques.<\/p>\n<p>De nos jours, les past\u00e8ques sont pleines de jus sucr\u00e9, mais elles n\u2019ont jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 sucr\u00e9es et juteuses.
